Description: Originally built in 1769 as a single storey arcaded market house, the Exchange was raised in 1776 to include Assembly Rooms. The building was at the centre of commerce and culture until the erection of the Commercial Buildings opposite in 1822. The property was considerably remodelled for the Belfast Banking Company; externally in the Italian Renaissance palazzo style by Charles Lanyon and internally by W H Lynn.
