Description: By Irushi Tennekoon, Sumudu Athukorala and Sumedha Kelegamann’83 is an illustrated stop motion film based on the Black July riots in Sri Lanka in 1983. The protagonist, Anton, wakes up in despair and is transported to a time when he killed a Tamil girl during the ’83 pogroms. The movie has one recurring Sinhala word, “Baaldhiya” (translation: bucket). The Sinhalese accosted people on the street and forced them to pronounce the word Baaldhiya.
